The Wellesley College and Harvard Business School graduate, Desiree Rogers, announced that she would be stepping down from her role as The White House’s Social Secretary.

Rogers had been an Obama family friend many years before she took on the role of social secretary. She aimed to modernize the White House by adding ethnic art to display in the Presidential Mansion.

She’s the vice-chairperson for the Lincoln Park Zoo, has also been Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Children’s museum.

She was also previously appointed in 1990 by then Illinois Republican Governor Jim Edgar, to run the Illinois state lottery, which at the time was a $2 billion state agency.

Rogers states that she will more than likely return to the private sector, and the President and First Lady stated, “We are enormously grateful to Desiree Rogers for the terrific job she’s done as the White House Social Secretary.”
