Queen Latifah’s Royal Voice

Queen Latifah Super Bowl

After co-hosting BET Netork’s “SOS: Saving OurSelves” telethon at American Airlines Arena on Friday, Latifah made her way over to Sun Life Stadium on Sunday to sing for the capacity crowd.

Latifah was on hand to sing the patriotic song “America the Beautiful.” The song was written 117 years ago as a poem, and the best known musical version is probably that of the legendary Ray Charles who sang it as well at the big game for Super Bowl XXXV.

Latifah did the song justice that Charles would have been proud of her rendition. Latifah’s vocals were backed by a wonderful children’s choir which was a perfect compliment to her soulful voice.

Latifah said that she was excited to be able to root for the New Orleans Saints since she had been a resident of New Orleans in the past.

Latifah’s upcoming movie Valentine’s Day will be in theaters this Friday, February 12 and has a cast of heavy hitters including Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, who won they award for his portrayal of Ray Charles, bringing Latifah’s Super Bowl moment full circle.
