Four U.S. senators have asked that the Federal Communications Commission, to launch a probe into Verizon Wireless and their raising of their Early termination fees to double what they currently are.
Verizon Wireless has raised the early termination fee on their accounts to $350. Verizon Wireless company officials are claiming that reason for the increased fees are to make their smartphones available to customers at a reduced cost.
However the senators are stating Verizon is trying to find a loophole to avoid legislation that they introduced to curb early terminations fees by offering consumers a prorated fee at the time of termination.
Even with the prorated legislation that the government has passed most Verizon Wireless customers would still end up paying $100 if they canceled their service near the end of their contract.
Is Verizon practicing dubious tactics or is this another company feeling the crunch of the current economy and trying to watch their bottom line?
