Forty Years of Good Music in the Big Easy

B B King

One of our favorite events, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is back and in full effect this year with a wonderful lineup.

This years line up is a complete delight. The promoters have really brought out the big guns for the 40th Anniversary of the festival. The list is full of high wattage mega-stars galore. The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin is set to perform the second weekend and is one of the headliners along with Van Morrison.

Genius singer-songwriter and producer Lionel Richie to get the crowds going with his vast catalog of music which spans from his years with the Commodores to his domination of the 80s pop charts up to now.

One of your all time favorites, the rapturous Anita Baker will be on hand to get people in the mood with her smooth ballads and her special take on her version of Jazz infused R&B.

The Funk pioneer himself George Clinton will be on hand with his Parliament Funkadelics to turn it out. Neo-Soul artist Ledisi is on the bill also to make sure things don’t get square we saw Teena Marie’s name too.

The Jazz festival has been going on since 1970 and is a celebration of the music and culture of New Orleans. The event covers all genres of music from R&B, Gospel, Cajun, Folk, Latin, Rock, Hip-Hop & Rap, to Bluegrass and of course Jazz.

His Majesty and Rock n’ Roll legend B.B. King will be there with Lucille in tow. King always puts on a great show and is sure to please with his down home Blues fused Rock.

The Neville Brothers will also be there to serenade the audience. If that wasn’t enough Kirk Franklin will also be there as well as R&B super group Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.

The festival takes place in New Orleans April 23-25, 2010 and April 29 – May 1, 2010, so stop by and check out the shows at the 12 stages and enjoy the food.
